Vegan Wine
Vegan wine refers to wine made without any animal-derived products in the production process. Traditional winemaking often uses animal-based fining agents, such as egg whites, fish bladders (isinglass), or gelatin, to clarify and filter the wine. In vegan wines, these are replaced with plant-based or mineral alternatives like bentonite clay, activated charcoal, or pea protein.
While the grapes themselves are vegan, the key difference is in the winemaking process, ensuring no animal products are used. Many winemakers are increasingly adopting vegan-friendly practices due to growing consumer demand, and some wines are now explicitly labelled as vegan. This makes it easier for those following a vegan lifestyle to choose wines that align with their ethical preferences.
